I found this article to be quite an interesting examination of the events, and satire in our generation:

For me, it raised a bunch of questions and, since I should have gotten ready for work like ten minutes ago, I'll leave it at that.
I find the cover art humorous, but am saddened by the knowledge that it would not have the desired effect on many Americans. However, I believe that readers of The New Yorker (the people for whom the work is intended) will have no trouble understanding its message. Therefore, I think that the generation of additional press concerning this cover art (which brings this art to an audience for which it was not originally intended, and which removes the work from its original context of The New Yorker and the style that goes along with that magazine) serves only to increase any negative effects from misunderstanding that may occur.
hmmm...I suppose this blog post would fall into the category of "additional press"...
